4  Significant Locations of the Rapp Family

There are several references that have been instrumental in locating the villages of my father, grandparents and great-grandparents. (Payne, n.d.) (Mertens 2010) (Kostiuk 2021)

4.1 As Shown on Google Earth

This project on Google Earth highlights significant areas for the Rapp family. There are some general areas worth noting:

German Colonies in Volhynia Northwest of Zhytomyr, Ukraine

Area where Ewald and his parents were born

Area around Warsaw (including Ilow)

Area where Ewald’s grandparents, Georg Rapp and Marianna Kälbert met and married

Area around Königsberg (Present day Kalingrad)

Area where Ewald grew up and married prior to draft into the Bundeswehr

Baden-Württemberg (Nagold and Öschelbronn)

Area where the family originated. The Rapp family came from the Nagold area; the Kälbert family from Öschelbronn. They migrated to the Warsaw area before continuing to Volhynia.
